Black Rhino
The Ngorongoro Crater holds one of Tanzania's few remaining populations of black rhino. Sightings are not guaranteed but the crater is one of the more reliable places in East Africa to look for them.
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera — a 260 square kilometre natural enclosure that holds an estimated 25,000 animals including all of the Big Five. Because the crater walls make it difficult for most animals to leave, wildlife densities inside are exceptional. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area also encompasses the Olduvai Gorge, one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world, and is home to Maasai communities who continue to graze their cattle alongside the wildlife. Maluku Global Tours and Safaris arranges crater floor game drives as either a standalone visit or combined with the Serengeti, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara on a northern circuit itinerary.
