The Lemosho Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the west and is one of the longer and more remote routes on the mountain. It begins at a lower trailhead than most other routes, adding an initial day of walking through undisturbed forest before joining the Shira Plateau at around 3,800 metres. From there it crosses the plateau, passes Lava Tower at 4,600 metres for acclimatisation, descends to Barranco, and then follows the same high route as the Machame Route to the summit. The extra days at the start give the Lemosho Route one of the best acclimatisation profiles of any route, reflected in high summit success rates. It tends to be quieter than the Machame Route, particularly in the first two days. We operate 7 and 8-day Lemosho climbs.
Western approach through undisturbed forest, across the Shira Plateau, over the Barranco Wall. Excellent acclimatisation profile and high summit success rates.
