Hut accommodation
Marangu is the only route with permanent A-frame sleeping huts at each camp. Beds and basic mattresses are provided. No personal tents are needed, which reduces the amount of gear to carry.
The Marangu Route is the only route on Kilimanjaro with permanent hut accommodation at Mandara, Horombo, and Kibo Huts, where climbers sleep in wooden bunkhouses rather than tents. The route approaches from the south-east, follows a single path for both ascent and descent, and has a more gradual gradient than most other routes. The standard 5-day itinerary allows limited acclimatisation time, which accounts for lower summit success rates compared to longer routes. We offer both 5 and 6-day Marangu options and recommend the 6-day for most climbers. The huts can be busy during peak season but the comfort of a dry sleeping hut at altitude makes this route well suited to climbers who prefer not to camp.
The shortest hut-to-hut option. Limited acclimatisation time — suitable for fit, time-constrained climbers with prior altitude experience.
Starting from $1,575 USD
Adds one acclimatisation day at Horombo Huts. Better summit success rates than the 5-day. Our recommended Marangu option for most climbers.
Starting from $1,800 USD
