Lake Chala Day Trip with Maluku

Lake Chala is a volcanic crater lake sitting on the Kenya-Tanzania border, about an hour east of Moshi. The crater was formed by ancient volcanic activity and the lake that fills it is one of the deepest in the region. What makes it visually distinctive is the colour - the water is a deep, clear emerald green due to the depth and the geology of the crater walls. The rim walk around the crater takes approximately one hour and offers views of Kilimanjaro to the west on clear mornings and the Kenyan plains to the east. Kayaking on the lake is available through a local operator at the site. The drive from Moshi passes through the Taveta area and offers its own character - dry plains transitioning to the volcanic landscape around the crater.
